Living in North York
One of Toronto's densest Iranian hubs — Willowdale on the subway, packed with Persian grocers and restaurants.
Neighbourhoods
Willowdale — the Iranian heart, apartment-dense, on the subway. Yonge & Finch / Sheppard — lively, near Mel Lastman Square. Bayview Village — quieter, pricier. Don Mills — green and family-friendly. Farther from the Yonge line is usually cheaper but less transit-connected.
Rent & cost of living
Toronto is expensive and prices shift; check live listings (rentals.ca, PadMapper, Facebook, Farsi rental groups). In Ontario the deposit is normally last-month's rent (no more), and annual rent increases are capped by the provincial guideline.
Getting around
Subway Line 1 (Yonge-University) runs through North York straight downtown; Finch, North York Centre and Sheppard-Yonge stations are central. Get a PRESTO card for TTC subway/bus/streetcar; GO Transit for the suburbs. A car isn't needed, though building parking costs extra.
OHIP & a doctor
Enrol for the Ontario health card (OHIP) at a ServiceOntario centre (bring ID + proof of residency). Ontario removed the 3-month OHIP wait in 2024, so coverage usually starts sooner — interim insurance for the first days is still wise. Use walk-in clinics or Health811 until you find a family doctor.
