Express Entry — Express Entry overview
canada.ca — Express Entry
Express Entry manages three streams (FSW, CEC, FST) and sends Invitations to Apply (ITAs) based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) — age, education, language, and work experience. Most Iranians qualify through FSW, where cut-offs typically run between 480 and 520.
Provincial Nominee Program
canada.ca — PNP overview
Every province except Quebec runs a PNP that nominates immigrants needed in the local labour market. A provincial nomination adds 600 points to your CRS — effectively guaranteeing an ITA — making PNP the best route for applicants below 450 in the federal pool.
Atlantic Immigration Program
canada.ca — Atlantic Immigration
The four Atlantic provinces (NB, NL, NS, PEI) run the AIP, which does not require a CRS score — just a job offer from a designated employer. AIP is one of the fastest pathways for applicants with low CRS scores or those in trades and healthcare in demand on the East Coast.
Arrima — Quebec Skilled Worker (QSW)
quebec.ca — immigration
Quebec runs a completely separate immigration system called Arrima, where you must obtain a CSQ (Quebec Selection Certificate) before applying federally. French is decisive — without intermediate French (TEFAQ/TCFQ), realistic chances are near zero, so plan French testing early.
Family Sponsorship
canada.ca — family sponsorship
Canadian citizens and PRs can sponsor spouses, children, parents, and (in narrow cases) orphaned siblings. Spousal sponsorship typically takes 10 to 12 months; parent sponsorship through the PGP lottery often takes several years and depends on annual draw timing.
Caregiver Pathways
canada.ca — caregivers
The Home Child Care Provider and Home Support Worker pilots are direct PR pathways for those caring for children or seniors in Canada. They require one year of in-Canada caregiving experience, and IRCC announced refreshed 2024–2026 pilot intakes with renewed quotas.
Self-Employed Persons Program
canada.ca — self-employed
Designed for artists, writers, musicians, and elite athletes who can demonstrate cultural or athletic contribution to Canada, requiring two years of self-employment in the past five. Note: IRCC paused new intake in late 2024 — verify current status before applying.
Start-Up Visa Program
canada.ca — Start-Up Visa
For entrepreneurs with an innovative idea who can secure backing from an IRCC-designated incubator, venture capital fund, or angel investor group. Conditional PR is granted first, and the business must operate in Canada. Language requirement is a relatively low CLB 5.
Refugee & Humanitarian Programs
canada.ca — refugees
Iranians at risk for political, religious, gender, or LGBTQ+ reasons can claim refugee protection in Canada. The IRB hearing is the most consequential step — strongly retain an immigration lawyer. Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) applications are a separate route for compelling cases.
TRV، Super Visa، Visitor Record — Temporary Resident Visas
canada.ca — visit Canada
A TRV is the standard 6-month visitor visa; the Super Visa is for parents and grandparents of citizens/PRs, allowing stays up to 5 years per entry; a Visitor Record extends status from inside Canada. Iranians typically apply through the Ankara or Istanbul visa offices.
Study Permit
portal/study.html
A Study Permit is required for courses longer than 6 months at a DLI and most pathways lead toward PGWP and eventually PR. Because the process for Iranians has unique nuances (visa office, SDS exclusion, GIC), we built a dedicated page — see Study for full details.
Work Permits & LMIA
canada.ca — work permits
An Open Work Permit (e.g., spousal or PGWP) lets you work for any employer; a Closed Work Permit ties you to one employer and usually requires an LMIA — proof the employer could not find a Canadian. A positive LMIA typically adds 50 CRS points to your Express Entry profile.
RCIC vs Immigration Lawyer
college-ic.ca — CICC
An RCIC is a regulated consultant licensed by the CICC, suitable for routine files (Express Entry, Study Permit, PNP). An immigration lawyer is required for litigation, Federal Court appeals, refugee hearings, and complex H&C cases. Always verify credentials on the official registry — fraud is common.
Need a consultant?
For complex or high-stakes files, work with an RCIC or immigration lawyer. Important: always verify their licence number yourself on the official CICC register (consultants) or the provincial bar (lawyers).
